The loneliness epidemic continues to grow. While it might be tempting to diagnose the contributing factors such as Covid-19, social media, or the rise of the one-person household; the reality is connection between humans has always been complicated. The faithful questions we need to wrestle with are, “What is God’s response to our loneliness, and does the church have a role to play?” Throughout scripture, we read about a triune God who exists in perfect community all the time and actually sets up social structures in families and the church to help us ward off isolation.
But considering that loneliness is only growing in our world, something must be off about the way we’re trying to live out God’s design for human connection today.
