रणभूमि के इस युद्ध में 17वें दिन कर्ण पाण्डव सेना में भीषण नरसंहार करता हुआ आगे बढ़ता गया और उसने चेदि देश के अनेकों वीरों को मार डाला। इसके उत्तर में पाण्डव भी शान्त नहीं रहे और कर्ण के पुत्रों के साथ-साथ, दुःशासन सहित अन्य धृतराष्ट्र पुत्र भी यमलोक गमन कर गए। युद्ध के अन्त में अर्जुन द्वारा कर्ण का वध भी हो गया और कौरव सेना शोकग्रस्त होकर अपने शिविर में लौट गई।
