As entrepreneurs and small business owners, we often start out doing all the things. Partly out of necessity, and then because we’re not sure how to go about hiring someone to help us or how to set up a new team-member to be successful.
I’m your host Alecia St. Germain and Jonathan Dugger is back with me to break down how to look past the resumé and the best way to find someone that truly aligns with what you need. Understanding how to trust your instincts about potential hires as well and recognizing where you need to grow as a leader can bring huge growth personally and financially.
Seven ways to improve your hiring success:
A great resume doesn’t guarantee a great hire. Skills and experience matter, but alignment with company culture and values is more important.
Trust your instincts. Ignoring gut feelings about a candidate, good or bad, can lead to costly mistakes.
Referrals aren’t foolproof. Just because someone comes highly recommended doesn’t mean they’re the right fit for your business.
Coachable and aligned people thrive. Hiring for attitude and willingness to learn often leads to more success than hiring for credentials alone.
Hiring mistakes are part of the process. You might have to go through a few missteps before finding the right person.
People-first businesses succeed. When you focus on the right people and meaningful work, the money follows.
Look up and look around. Being intentional about human connection in your daily interactions creates a more compassionate and thriving business.
