Farriers are not the first equine professional we think of in relation to infectious diseases like Strangles but the disease poses not only a threat to other customers but to their business and reputation.

In this energising conversation between two of the UK's top farriers . We hear why biosecurity is important and the dilemmas farriers can face if an owner or yard manager fails to tell them about the disease status of their horse or yard.

Ben Benson is a Master Farrier and Vice President of the British Farrier and Blacksmith Association (BFBA) with Olympic credentials and he talks to Danny Bennett AWCF Cert.Ed, an award winning farrier and a farriery educator at one of the leading UK Farriery Colleges; Hereford and Ludlow.

Strangles Awareness Week is a campaign that aims to promote openness around the disease and make biosecurity a part of everyday horse care across the Equine Industry. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the British Horse Society, Intervacc, Keeping Britain’s Horses Healthy, Redwings Horse Sanctuary, Scotland’s Rural College’s Premium Assured Strangles Scheme (PASS), Surveillance of Equine Strangles (SES), The (Dick) Royal School of Veterinary Studies and World Horse Welfare.

You can find more information about the campaign and share resources on FaceBook or YouTube
