Today’s episode is our first one of spooky season! We are doing a throwback to a creep in the night…
In the fall of 1888, an area in the East End of London called Whitechapel was rampant with poverty, violence, and women engaging in sex work to survive. With all this happening, a sudden string of brutal murders began to occur with women being found with their throats slashed and major trauma to their abdomens. These women were known for being involved in sex work and many of them were struggling with alcohol dependency. No evidence was ever left behind and the majority of these women were found very shortly after they were murdered. All police knew was that the killer used a 6–8-inch blade, was a man, the direction of the neck wounds, and that the murders occurred on or around weekends and holidays. With nothing to go on, media received a letter from someone who had knowledge about the murders and had named himself, Jack the Ripper. Who was this Jack? Was he caught? Listen to find out!
