Tyler Armstrong grew up in Springfield, Illinois and as a young kid, started banging on pots and pans, developing a love for percussion. Through his parents, he was exposed to both Contemporary Christian music and also secular music. Through his older sister, he also heard a great mix of pop and punk. Tyler appreciated good music, no matter what the genre. His dad was into classic rock, which opened another musical window. He got a guitar, and over time, became an incredibly great guitarist. At 18, he moved to Nashville for a while and was knocked out by what he heard from the musicians there. He’s played in bands that have opened for Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet and .38 Special just to name a few. Tyler does session work, produces other artists his space Harbor Studios, and is currently playing and recording with FEEL on lead guitar. On my recent visit to Harbor, I got to hear Tyler Armstrong’s story in his own words and see at least some of his many guitars, amps and gear.
FEEL plays Off Broadway in St. Louis on September 9. Get tickets here.
