Tiffany Yu (@iamtiffanyyu) speaker/leader and author of THE ANTI-ABLEIST MANIFESTO, did not find her voice to claim and honor her own disabilities until age 21. In this slightly-off subject interview with THE SOULFAM PODCAST, Tiffany relates her struggle and commitment to raise awareness, respect and equity for those challenged with physical disabilities as well as those whose disabilities are often invisible to a caustic, busy world (ie. neurodivergence, anxiety, depression, medical conditions, autism.) At age 9, Yu became disabled in a car accident that also took the life of her father. For 12 years afterward, influenced by her cultural background as the daughter of Asian immigrants, Yu did not talk publicly about the car accident, told everyone her father was away on a trip, and attempted to “hide” her disabled arm. Not until she was in college and began dating did she openly share the truth of her experience and the loss of her father. Yu was a “top bucket” (based on performance reviews) investment banking analyst at Goldman Sachs, and she cofounded Bloomberg’s disability employee resource group. Since the founding of Diversability in 2009, Yu has been on a mission to increase access and opportunity in the disability community, investing over $300,000 in the disability community through her work at Diversability, the Awesome Foundation Disability Chapter, and the Disability Empowerment Endowed Fund at Georgetown University. Tiffany talks further about recognizing and honoring the grief of her disability and encourages her community to do the same. Understanding her own trauma and evolution is ongoing process and one Tiffany willingly shares on THE SOULFAM PODCAST. Tiffany speaks around the country about her most recent release THE ABLE-IST MANIFESTO (sold on Amazon https://a.co/d/gDtxbzk) and all available book platforms. Tiffany can be followed on Insta @iamtiffanyyu, at her website www.tiffanyyu.com and is available to work with brands, corporations, organizations, government agencies and individuals to create new ways to support individuals and groups with disabilities.
