In this episode, we will talk about the journey of Tareq Alaows, a human rights activist and political spokesperson for refugee affairs. Born in Syria, Tareq was forced to leave his country in 2015 and seek refuge in Germany. Since then, he has been working on everything related to asylum policies here.
In 2018, he moved to Berlin, and three years later, in 2021, he announced his candidacy for the German parliament, becoming the first Syrian refugee to run for this position with the Green Party. How was his journey? What challenges did he face? And what does he see for the future of refugees in Germany?
