Cocktail: Ward Eight
We have returned from Inbound 2024, and during our time there, we recorded an episode sharing all our live thoughts from the conference. Tune in to hear about our hosts' favorite sessions and some entertaining tangents about their week in Boston.

Recipe

The Ward Eight, a classic cocktail born in Boston in 1898, was created to celebrate the election of Martin M. Lomasney, a local politician. This rye whiskey-based drink, featuring lemon and orange juices and grenadine, is a twist on the Whiskey Sour. While there are variations in its preparation, the original recipe is said to have originated at the Locke-Ober Café in Boston's eighth ward.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz. rye whiskey
  • 5 oz. lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 5 oz. orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 2 teaspoons grenadine
  • Garnish: 2 or 3 speared cherries

Directions:

  1. Add the rye whiskey, lemon and orange juices and grenadine to a shaker with ice.
  2. Shake until well-chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with speared cherries.
