Today we’re getting under the hood of Rachell M. Dumas, RN a mother, daughter, sister, maternal health advocate, entrepreneur, and founder of A Light After Nine, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting families navigating pregnancy loss, infertility, and maternal trauma. Rachell’s personal journey through maternal health challenges has been nothing short of extraordinary. After enduring nine devastating pregnancy losses—including heartbreaking experiences like delivering her baby at 20 weeks and losing another baby in a restroom at home due to a late miscarriage—Rachell was determined to create change. Her journey included battling cardiac and pulmonary complications during pregnancy, advocating for her own care in the face of systemic barriers, and flying across the country to undergo a rare surgery to try to save her pregnancy. In 2022, after years of resilience and advocacy, she welcomed her miracle baby.
Through A Light After Nine, Rachell provides trauma-informed care, emotional support, and advocacy for equitable maternal health, while partnering with hospitals, employers, and healthcare entities to expand access to critical maternal health resources. Her mission is rooted in addressing the systemic gaps in care and creating a compassionate, patient-centered approach to maternal health, particularly for underserved communities. Through her nonprofit, public speaking, and writing, Rachell empowers women and families with hope, resilience, and actionable solutions for healing.
