I see a lot of bad advice being doled out to job seekers on LinkedIn. Individuals claim to be coaches when they have little substantial ‘real life’ or professional experience. Mentors advise candidates to fudge their resumes or purchase fake degrees. And other job seekers who are in the same ‘unemployed’ boat are giving horrible advice to their colleagues.
While seeing the poor advice is concerning, my largest angst is that high-quality candidates are taking it! These incredible professionals are making irrational decisions due to the crappy job search advice they are receiving.
It is time for all of us to pause and assess. Jobseekers, question the advice you are receiving. Heck…start by questioning where the advice is coming from. Why would you trust a 'coach' who tells you he can get you a senior-level position when he never made it past CRA II? And why trust ‘advisors’ who are in the same unemployed boat as you are?
