Having asthma may once have been seen as a weakness or something to be pitied for, but is this still the case? What do we now know about the causes and treatment of asthma? Is there still some level of embarrassment for children living with asthma today?
Asthma is the most common long-term medical condition in children in the UK, affecting around 1 in 11 young people. Chances are there is at least one person in your child’s school or nursery class living with asthma. In fact, the UK has some of the highest rates of asthma in the world with over 5 million people living with the condition, including over 1 million children.
In today’s Family Health Podcast episode, we talk to Dr Greg Burch, an A&E doctor and CEO of Tiny Medical Apps which supports the NHS and charities with digital solutions to help people manage long term conditions at home. We also chat with Ambreen, whose young daughter lives with asthma, about her symptoms, treatment and the impact this has on her life.
If your child has ever felt embarrassed about having asthma or needing to use an inhaler, you will want to hear about the new digital technology that could empower them and give them autonomy over the management of their condition.
Asthma is so common that it’s really important that we all have an understanding of what it is like for our friends and family living with this condition, and how we can best look out for them. A brilliant episode, not to be missed!
