Today we're chatting with Johannes Weiland. I am extremely happy to share this conversation with you and it is complicated to present Johannes in a couple of lines, his experience is so varied and dense.
He grew up in Berlin and worked as a dancer for Béjart, before deepening his approach to choreography in NY. He then became the in-house choreographer at the Staatstheater Kassel for 15 years. While creating for that company, he also kept making work independently as a free-lance choreographer. With Evangelos Poulinas he co-founded B12 the festival for contemporary dance and performance art in Berlin running in the summer and in the fall and gathering fascinating international practitioners each year.
Throughout this chat, he got me to remember the fluctuation of states that makes us, that constructs us. It’s spiritual and grounded in the constant change of things, in their impermanence.
Embracing the endless research and exploration art offers, the derivations, the openness, the surprises and the precious relationship and feedback from his collaborators. I hope you’ll enjoy this chat as much as I did!
