The Cullinan Diamond is the largest diamond in the world at 3106 carats, not quite as big as a closed fist. By the way, a carat is 0.2 grams or the same weight as a carrot seed. I looked this up when I was thinking that a diamond the size of a basketball would be cool, however, no such rock exists. Now most meteors are stony and consist of mostly silicate minerals. They can also contain metal like iron. The largest meteorite ion the world is about 9 feet across and weighs nearly 60 tons. While earthly diamonds are made deep within the Earth scientists have found tiny diamonds in meteorites and are thinner than a human hair. All of this is nice, but what if someone, say a little girl, found a space diamond the size of a basketball, what would happen? Well, of course she would show it to her daddy, and that is where the story “Diamond” starts. I hope you enjoy the story.
