Co-authors of The Christmas Pic Rena Sapon-White and Ella Schaefer joined us for this meaningful conversation about making and publishing queer art in a hostile political climate and the impact it can have, breaking rules, and fictional happy endings for queer characters as a resource for real life. They also gave us special insight into the history and development of the birth of The Christmas Pic and Harmony Springs, and its journey from TV to independent novel. Is Ava unlikeable? Some people thought so. They revealed their favorite parts of writing Ava and Jo, the surprising thing Ella has in common with Jo, and that we can look forward to a new work from them on Wattpad called "My TikTok Spy."

As Rena so eloquently said, let's "usher the spirit of Harmony Springs off the page and into the world.”

Our next read will be Mouths of Rain: An Anthology of Black Lesbian Thought, edited by Briona Simone Jones.
