How our intimate partners can reveal our real shadow: shattering the persona mask of “the complete man” - PDD #11 (Psychology Deep Dive Podcast Episode #11)
Harry Venice carries on from the previous episode and discusses a letter by Carl Jung as a springboard to access our true, deeper shadow. In this letter, Carl Jung says he doubts the genuineness of “the complete man” because it is “too much of a concoction”. In the letter he refers to Goethe’s Faust. This leads to a discussion of persona, the psychological projection of the God-image, and Carl Jung’s anecdote in his autobiography (Memories, Dreams, Reflections) where Jung discusses a priest who seemed to have no shadow.
We also discuss Edward Edinger and both identification with the God-image and the transformation of the God-image. We also dip into themes relevant for person, narcissism, shadow. There is also discussion of the vampire archetype, the medusa archetype, dreams, the negative mother complex and the feminine, anima projection, and how we treat our intimate partners and spouses.
As always, these concepts are explored via real life examples from Jungian Analysis with a Jungian Analyst.
Topics: shadow work, jungian analysis with a jungian analyst, archetypes, Carl Jung's Jungian Depth Psychology, narcissism, narcissistic personality disorder, trauma, trauma healing, individuation, attachment theory attachment style, parenting, freud, .
