Happy New Year, everyone! In this mindful moment, I kick off the year by reflecting on some important lessons I have learned about communication and assumptions. After a refreshing New Year's Day swim and a low-key evening with friends, I found myself in two eye-opening conversations that revealed how easy it is to overlook the small but significant gaps in communication.
During a dinner with friends, a simple question led to a surprising realization about my own marriage. I learned that my husband and I had both been assuming things about each other’s actions and routines, which led to a few miscommunications. Whether it was about work habits or gardening techniques, I discovered that even after years together, it’s still important to ask for clarification and check in with one another.
In this episode, I share how these realizations have inspired me to focus more on clear communication this year, and to be mindful of the assumptions I make. I’ll also be spending a little less time working and a little more time with my husband—enjoying the well-hydrated flowers in our garden! (This will make more sense after listening 😉)
Join me as I dive into the power of asking questions, getting clear, and making sure we’re truly hearing each other in our relationships.
Key Highlights:
- The unexpected importance of checking for understanding, even in long-term relationships.
- How assumptions can create unspoken gaps in communication.
- My new goal for the year: More checking in, less assuming, and more quality time with loved ones!
