In this episode of the FinTech Australia Podcast, host Chris Titley interviewed Andrew Black, Managing Director at ConnectID.

Andrew provided an overview of ConnectID as a digital identity network that allows individuals to reuse trusted digital identity sources, primarily through their banks.

He explained that ConnectID is part of Australian Payments Plus, which operates eftpos, BPAY, and NPP services. Andrew discussed significant developments in Australia's digital identity landscape, particularly the federal government's passage of digital identity legislation in December 2023.

He highlighted ConnectID's achievements in 2024, including onboarding all four major banks (CBA, Westpac, NAB, and ANZ) as identity providers, covering over 75% of the Australian population.

Andrew emphasised the importance of interoperability and the network's global standards approach. He also discussed ConnectID's expansion into various sectors, including rental services, liquor sales (with Dan Murphys and BWS), employee onboarding, and lending.

The conversation concluded with Andrew sharing insights about international collaboration, particularly with countries like Canada, Japan, and the Nordics, and the future vision for Australia's digital identity landscape.
