Lets hear the rest of the story! Join us for Part 1 and 2 of our interview with Dr. Brierley.
Meet Dr. Yann Brierley: pathologist 🧬, compassionate leader ❤️, devoted mentor 👨🏫, and steadfast advocate for kindness in medicine 🤝. As Chief of Staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital 🏥 and the driving force behind the "Civility Matters" initiative 🌟, he is dedicated to fostering a culture where respect, collaboration, and humanity shape every interaction and decision.
During his residency in General Pathology at the University of Alberta 🏫, Dr. Brierley spent a transformative four-week elective at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. After achieving his Royal College certification 📜, he returned, not just as a physician but as a husband 💍, a father to a 10-week-old daughter 👶, and a man ready to plant deep roots in a community he knew he could serve wholeheartedly.
Today, with four children 👨👩👧👦, a home full of love (and various animals) 🐾, and a thriving career, Dr. Brierley continues to give himself fully to his family, colleagues, and patients. As a Director on the VJH Physician Society and Medical Staff Association Board, he is a voice for those around him, always striving to lift others up. In moments between his demanding work, he finds solace and joy in the wild beauty of nature—skiing through fresh mountain air 🎿, camping under the stars ⛺, backpacking through rugged landscapes 🎒, and cycling open roads 🚴.
At his core, Dr. Brierley believes in the power of connection 🌐, the strength of kindness 💪, and the deep responsibility of healing—not just through medicine, but through the way we treat one another. He leads not only with knowledge and skill but with an open heart, proving every day that civility, compassion, and courage have the power to transform the world around us.
