Climate change is real, but do the UN agencies and even the Secretary-General himself, really stick to the facts? This is an English version of Kaliber's investigation 'Klimatkatastrofen' from December 2024.

Climate change is real, but is it as bad as it sometimes sounds?

According to the IPCC - the scientific authority that all UN member states rely on - there is no doubt that our greenhouse gas emissions have warmed the planet and are negatively impacting the climate, with melting ice, rising sea levels, and an increase in certain extreme weather events.

But UN agencies, as well as UN Secretary-General António Guterres, take it much further. We are told that:

  • 1.7 million children die every year due to climate change.

  • Women and children are 14 times more likely to die in natural disasters than men.

  • The number of weather disasters has increased fivefold since the 1970s.

  • Families in Samoa are abandoning their homes and moving inland because of climate change.

In this special episode of Kaliber, tailored for an international audience, we dig deep into these claims and ask: will the narrative of the apocalypse help us at all?
