The app has 2 settings which allow you to listen to multiple episodes in a row.
The first one is called 'Playlist' and is enabled by default (Settings/Playlist/Enable Playlist). With this setting, you will be able to add episodes from different podcasts to the app Playlist. Then you can open the Playlist screen from the navigation sidebar to start playing queued episodes.
The second setting is called 'Continuous Playback' and is disabled by default (Settings/Playlist/Continuous Playback). This setting will change the way the app handles the episode Play button. Instead of starting the episode playback, it will first create a temporary queue with every episode displayed on the current screen, then start the playback.
You can see/re-order the queued episodes list by opening the player screen and swiping to see the left 'panel'.
Even though 'Continuous Playback' is disabled by default, first time you will press on an episode play button the app will describe what this setting does and will ask you if you want to enable it or not.
Here is how the app will work depending on the settings combination:
Enable Playlist: ON
Continuous Playback: ON
'Add to playlist' buttons are displayed, allowing you to customize the playlist content.
Pressing on an episode PLAY button will queue episodes displayed on the current screen and play them without any required action.
Pressing an episode PLAY button when it's already in the playlist will still start playing unread episodes of the selected podcast.
You need to open the playlist screen to start playing its content, or resume the current playback via the player banner or the app widget.
Enable Playlist: ON
Continuous Playback: OFF
'Add to playlist' buttons are displayed, allowing you to customize the playlist content.
Pressing on an episode PLAY button, will add the episode to the playlist and play it.
Enable Playlist: OFF
Continuous Playback: ON
'Add to playlist' buttons are disabled and pressing on an episode PLAY button will queue episodes displayed on the current screen and play them without any required action
Enable Playlist: OFF
Continuous Playback: OFF
'Add to playlist' buttons are disabled and pressing on an episode PLAY button will only play the selected episode
⚠️ By default, only downloaded episodes will be added to the generated playlist when using Continuous playback mode. To change this, make sure to enable Settings/Playlist/Allow Streaming ⚠️
In order to sum it up:
The 'Enable Playlist' setting allows the user to manage a global playlist were episodes from multiple podcasts can be added via the 'Add to playlist' button.
The 'Continuous Playback' setting allows the user to listen to every episode displayed on the current screen by pressing on an episode play button.
The playlist screen will show the global Audio/Video playlist just as it already does. So if the playlist is disabled, this screen will be hidden.
When pressing PLAY on an episode, the app will start playing episodes displayed on the current screen. To see this list, you will need to open the player screen and then swipe to the left to see the queue content and reorder it if you want to.
Continuous playback takes into account the filters enabled on the current screen.
For example, you can start listening to your favorite episodes by opening the 'Favorite episodes' screen and pressing play on an episode. If you select a specific podcast before starting playback, then the app will only play favorite episodes of the selected podcast
⚠️ The Custom playlist tab also allows you to select a category you want to listen to. You can edit existing categories or create new ones.
Each category has its own filter which allows you to restrict the episodes that will be played based on their status (played, downloaded, favorites) and publication date ⚠️
