I have two daughters aged 13 and 10 and a son aged 2 (he’s still got a few more years before this question really applies to him) my girls are both super small for their ages. They are both ready to start taking a gun of their own into the woods for deer season and I need help picking out what gun and in what caliber to go with. Some of the details, we hunt public ground in southern Illinois, so it has to be either a shotgun with slugs, muzzleloader, or straight wall center fire rifle. If it is a centerfire rifle it has to either be a single shot or a bolt action with a magazine shelf/ solid mag, no rounds ca+n fit into a magazine.
gun choice- not really considering shotgun or muzzleloader. You can try to change my mind. So with a straight wall….do I go Single shot so it’s lighter for them to carry and easier on my wallet so I get get a better optic for them, but then that’s all it will ever be, just a single shot rifle. Or go bolt action, more options to choose from, but it would be harder to reload (remember they will have to open the bolt, twist the gun, throw in a new round,
