The Miami Marlins committed four errors, leading to six unearned runs, as the Minnesota Twins rallied to beat the Marlins 8-3 on Wednesday night.
Edward Cabrera allowed three runs in five innings for Miami. The 26-year-old righty just gave up seven runs against the LA Dodgers. He had been pretty good for a while after the All-Star break, but has imploded these last couple of starts.
Jake Burger launched a three-run home run in the 1st inning, scoring Xavier Edwards and Connor Norby with Miami's only runs of the game.
The Marlins had some chances tonight, but they went 1-11 with runners in scoring position. This is the fourth time in franchise history that the Marlins have lost 100 games in a season.
The Twins kept their playoff hopes alive. Minnesota is 1 1/2 games behind Detroit for the last AL final wild card spot with four games to play. Detroit, Kansas City (2nd wild card) and Seattle, trails Minnesota by a half-game, all won today.
Marlins right-hander Declan Cronin allowed four unearned runs for Miami. Michael Petersen gave up one run in an inning of relief to get the loss.
Miami's first five hitters reached base in the first inning against Twins rookie Simeon Woods Richardson. Woods Richardson finishes his first full season in the majors with a 5-5 record and 4.17 ERA. He went 3-1 with a 3.51 ERA in the first half.
