John shares his experience growing up out west around Walgett, Grawin and Coonamble. He chats about Opal mining as a young person, growing up and working in the region. He speaks about times he avoided being “taken away” as a child. He describes how removed Aboriginal families came from all over- “wrong clans wrong countries”.

Rainy King talks about the role of art in her life. Rainy utilises ceramic skills to incorporate traditional cultural design, and has set up a studio with all the equipment and three kilns. Coonamble is set along the picturesque Castlereagh River among some of Australia’s finest agricultural land. With a small population of around 3000 the entire Coonamble Shire stretches from the western slopes of the Warrumbungle Range and is host to an abundance of natural wonders including the Warrumbungle National Park, the Macquarie Marshes and Pilliga Forest. Coonamble is home to Australia’s biggest rodeo and campdraft and the town’s endearing Nickname Hall of Fame.
