In our celebratory episode we are covering Jack The ripper!!
Jack the Ripper is the pseudonym given to an unidentified serial killer who terrorized the Whitechapel district of London in 1888. Known for his brutal attacks on women, particularly targeting vulnerable female sex workers, Jack the Ripper’s modus operandi included slashing the throats and mutilating the bodies of his victims, often removing organs in a way that suggested medical knowledge.
The murders attributed to Jack the Ripper were mainly concentrated in the impoverished East End of London, specifically in Whitechapel. The Ripper’s known victims, often called the “canonical five,” were Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly. However, some believe there could have been additional victims. The killer's identity remains one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in criminal history, sparking numerous theories, investigations, and cultural portrayals.
Despite the intense media frenzy, extensive police investigations, and hundreds of suspects, no one was ever formally identified as Jack the Ripper. The case has since become a symbol of the public fascination with the macabre and has inspired countless books, films, and theories attempting to reveal the killer's true identity.
