Website: http://www.noobiedentist.com Instagram: @noobiedentist Headline Quote [08:14-08:55] My first piece of advice is: just act! Too many of us just think, think, think and overthink and overthinking means nothing is getting done. And you’ve just got to act, you’ve just got to back your gut, and you’ve just gotta have a crack at it. So you can tell I’m a bit of a risk-taker. But I haven’t had any regrets from the risks that I’ve taken because it has always led to me putting myself out of my comfort zone and that’s where the most growth in life happens to all of us— whether that’s personally, professionally, mentally, emotionally, psychologically. You have to get yourself out of your comfort zone. Conclusion Were you inspired by Dr. Jalal Khan’s story and yet, find it difficult to “just act” as he recommends? Injection Overmolding Technique and Career Longevity with Dr. Jihyon Kim (@discingqueen)
Apr 26 2020 52 mins
Today’s Interview is with Dr. Jihyon Kim @DiscingQueen on Instagram based in Seattle Washington. This interview was recorded a few months ago prior to me heading over to Seattle to attend Kois and I had the awesome pleasure of meeting up with both Dr. kim and Brandon walker (@prosthabilities) for brunch while I was there. We ran into each other again at DIA a few days later where Dr. Kim taught a great session in injection over molding. As promised I am trying to get back to a more regular schedule with posting up interviews and am working on redesigning the website and logo to freshen things up. The podcast has been a big part of my dental career so far and it has allowed me to form so many close friendships and find so many mentors who have helped me along the way. Dr. Kim is no exception, in this interview we talk about several topics including injection over molding restorative technique, how to stay hungry and continue to grow as your progress in your dental career and much more. Dr. Kim has up to so much since we last spoke for this interview. She has launched her own podcast along with Brandon Walker called Dental Disruptors, she has also launched the discing queen academy and institute of IO. Life of an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with the Bloody Tooth Guy (@bloodytoothguy)
Apr 13 2020 47 mins
Hello and welcome back for another episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. This interview is very important for me, it is with someone who I have admired and looked up to for years and having the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with them for this interview was tremendously exciting and a highlight of my podcasting career so far. Today’s guest is The Bloody Tooth Guy. Many will know of him as one of Instagram OG members and many us have benefited from his outstanding content, education and entertainment around Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. In this interview we talk about his journey into dentistry and OMFS, when and why he started the Bloody Tooth Guy and why he decided to stay anonymous for so long. We also went off track a bit and had a good chat about topics we’re both passionate about, watches and sports. This interview was recorded in February before this Covid pandemic changed everything and that is why it is not discussed during this interview. I hope you enjoy this episode half as much as I did recording it, without further delay, enjoy this interview with the man himself, the bloody tooth guy Bloody Tooth Guy: Instagram: @bloodytoothguy Youtube: Bloody Tooth Guy Sponsor Details: This episode is brought to you by Ivoclar Vivadent Ivoclar Vivadent is one of the world's leading and most innovative dental companies, offering a comprehensive range of products and systems that provide you with new opportunities in dentistry – for even more aesthetic and efficient results and better dental care for patients. To Bulk Fill or Not To Bulk Fill with Dr. Davey Alleman and Dr. Ryan Nolan
Feb 17 2020 80 mins
This week’s interview was recorded an embarrassingly long time ago but nonetheless it is with two of my good friends who I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know over several interviews on the podcast and then to meet them in person at DIA few months ago was great. I am of coarse talking about Dr. Davey Alleman and Dr. Ryan Nolan. Both these gentlemen are exceptionally bright individuals and for me it was just fun to facilitate a discussion between these guys on this interview. We cover a lot of topics including different approaches to restorative dentistry, future of restorative materials, role of mouthwashes in caries control and much more. I hope you guys enjoy this interview and my promise is that these episodes will be returning on a more regular interval with some amazing guests including Bloody Tooth Guy and many other amazing dentists. As always, if you have been enjoying this podcast, please be sure to share it with you friends, colleagues and classmates. If you’ve got the time, it would also mean a lot to me if you could head over to iTunes and give the podcast a review and a 5 star rating. Dentistry in Germany with Georg Benjamin
Jan 06 2020 47 mins
Hello and Welcome back to another episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. It is 2020 and this is the first episode of the podcast to go out in 2020. I will be releasing a separate podcast doing a 2019 in review and 2020 resolutions so I will not get into it too much here. In this week’s episode I sat down with Georg Benjamin out of Berlin Germany. Georg studied at the University of Wurzburg in Germany and the University of Umea in Sweden graduating in 2010. He started out as an associate dentist and since 2013 has been working as a general dentist with a special interest in endodontics. His work is focused on referral-based endo treatment with special interest in vital pulp therapies. In 2015 he co-founded the dental blog www.saurezaehne.de, a digital collection of cases and dental topicals to share experiences with like minded people. He also launched an international clinical dental podcast called Dental Bonding at IDS in 2019. In this episode we explore what dentistry is like in Germany, the challenges local dentists face and the future trends that Georg sees developing. He also talk about this clinical interest, plans for the future and dive into this podcast and blog. For me, I love these episodes where I get to talk to dentists from different parts of the world and connect their stories and ideas with my audience. All Things Dentistry with Dr. Ashley Mark
Nov 10 2019 59 mins
Welcome back to another episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. In this week’s episode I had the awesome pleasure of interviewing someone I have looked up to and followed for a very long time, Dr. Ashley Mark of All Things Dentistry. In dental school, Ashley’s videos on his All Things Dentistry YouTube channel taught me so much from photography, to dentures to oral surgery and endodontics. Ashley is one of the nicest, most humble people I have had the pleasure of interviewing on the podcast. His channel has close to 60,000 subscribers and he has published well over 700 videos over the past several years, a massive contributor to our dental community! Dr. Ashley Mark is a University of Manitoba graduate who has been serving and working in the Canadian Military for close to 20 years. He completed a 2 year AEGD program during his service and has been stationed all throughout Canada, United States and even a stint in Belgium. He also served two tours in Afghanistan and Iraq where he both provided dental care and helped locals launch their own dental training programs. He is currently practicing in Ottawa, Canada with a special interest in Endodontics. Ashley is a great teacher and has indirectly, through his videos, been a huge mentor of mine. He has a ton of free content on his youtube channel and website. He has also created an endo course online for general dentists wishing to demystify endodontics. I had the priviledge of beta testing this course and I must say that it is filled with practical tips and tricks to help you do endo in your practice safely and predictably. Links below! NDP 54 - Live Interview During All-on-4 implant surgery with Dr. Alex Fibishenko
Sep 29 2019 57 mins
This week’s episode is really quite special and something that I personally have never seen been done before. I recorded this week’s interview with Dr. Alex Fibishenko live in the operating room as he was performing an upper and lower arch All on 4 implant procedure. I had the awesome opportunity to retract and suction while performing the interview and the resultant podcast is a true auditory experience. You’ll hear the HR monitor in the background, the suction and handpiece throughout the interview. I spent several hours trying to clean up the loud suction noises as best I could so I do hope you guys can stick it out and listen to the podcast as Dr. Alex shares a wealth of information. Nonetheless this episode understandably doesn’t have the same sound quality of your typical podcast. This episode will give you the feel of being in theatre standing with us watching the surgery which I doubt you’ll find on any other podcast. Dr Alex Fibishenko practices exclusively in Oral Implantology, Dento-Facial Surgery and Facial Aesthetics. One of Australia’s most respected implant surgeons, innovators and educators, Dr Fibishenko works in a surgical capacity with selected dentists and specialists. He is founder of All-On-4 Clinic and is a Visiting Faculty at the Linhart Continuing Dental Education Program at NYU College of Dentistry. For you Australian listeners, Dr. Alex has kindly offered up 2 spots to his implant residency program running October 21-23. We will be running a contest on Instagram so be sure to check out my Instagram page for more details. This course is valued at almost $9000 and is generally not available to Australian dentists so it is an amazing opportunity to learn from one of Australia’s best implant dentists. Good luck and I hope to see the winners there! As always if you have been enjoying these podcasts please be sure to pass them along to your friends, classmates and colleagues. It would also mean a lot to me if you head over to iTunes or in the podcast app on your iphones and give the show a 5 star rating and leave a review! Lastly, I have been working on a large collaborative project with a fellow podcast host and my good friend Dr. David Kier. We have recently launched 4Sight Live which is a short format live interview series that we will be running on Instagram and facebook and we will also be announcing some exciting news in the coming weeks. NDP Episode 41: Life Outside of Dentistry with Dr. Bruce V Freeman (rebroadcast)
Jun 02 2019 75 mins
Welcome to a rebroadcast of one of the most downloaded episodes of the Noobie Dentist podcast with Dr. Bruce Freeman. This episode, originally released on March 5, 2018, quickly became the most downloaded episode and served as a tipping point for the podcast. Beyond download numbers and podcast growth, it allowed me to connect with Dr. Freeman and he has become a great friend and mentor. As it is graduation season in North America and a lot of the listeners are based in the United States and Canada, we thought that it would be a great opportunity to rebroadcast this episode as so many of its lessons and themes are directly applicable to the new grads entering the profession. Dr. Freeman has certainly remained active since the airing of the original interview. He has been busy travelling all across the country lecturing on patient experience, continuing his work with the oro-facial pain clinic in Toronto and has just earned his yoga instructors credentials and is hoping to use yoga, breathing and mindfulness exercises to help dentists improve their mental health. Dr. Freeman can be found: Instagram: @drbvf Original Show Notes (episode 14): A special 2 part series with Dr. Bruce V Freeman (@drbvf)! Dr. Bruce Freeman is a well renowned and respected orthodontist in Toronto who works in private practice and one of the top teaching hospitals in Canada where he focuses on oro-facial pain and TMD! He has become a mentor and someone who I often turn to for advice! Outside of dentistry, Dr. Freeman is an avid chef and likes experimenting with various recipes baking with grass fed butter! This 2 part series is special for me as it marks the first podcasts that I recorded in person with the guest. In part 1 of this 2 part series, we focus on life outside of dentistry talking about various topics including finding a good work life balance, dealing with the ups and downs of being a dentist, burnout and a recurring topic on the noobiedentist podcast; side hustles! As I’ve often mentioned in my podcasts, I’m a big fan of the long form interviews such as the ones done by Tim Ferriss and so this 2 part series is an exciting one for me! I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I did recording them with Dr. Freeman! To support the podcast please subscribe and be sure to rate the show! It really helps the NoobieDentist Podcast grow. Like and Follow on Instagram (@noobiedentist), please DM me for any suggestions about the show or if you are interested in coming on as a guest!! NDP Episode 30: Introduction to Biomimetic Dentistry with Dr. Davey Alleman DMD
Sep 23 2018 96 mins
Welcome back for episode 30 of the Noobie Dentist Podcast! It always exciting to reach a milestone episode and having published 30 episodes is something that I am certainly quite proud of. It’s nice to reflect on all the great guests that I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to on the podcast and the hours of work are more than justified when I get messages from dentists and dental students from around the world who enjoy listening to the podcast. In this episode I interviewed Dr. Davey Alleman who is a young dentist based in the United States. He is currently a dentist in the military and practices biomimetic dentistry. Biomimetic dentistry is a hot topic and is an area of dentistry that I have personally been interested in and so this chat with Davey was an amazing way to learn more. This episode is by far one of my favourites in terms of the richness of the content; Davey did not hold back and really delivered unbelievable value during this interview. I am sure that you guys will learn a few things as well and I hope that it can impact your thought process and even clinical practice as much as it did for me. I strongly feel that biomimetic dentistry is the way of the future and something that we will look back on in 10-15 years and wonder why we used to cut teeth for retention. Can find Dr. Alleman on Instagram: @davey_alleman_dmd I have attached some links for download of a couple of recommended papers from Dr. Alleman on my website in the show notes for this episode: https://noobiedentist.com/podcast/ The course that Dr. Alleman highly recommends is: https://www.biomimeticdentistryce.com/ **Announcements** Noobie Dentist Study Club Australia is now live: https://www.facebook.com/groups/986018644911271/ Our first event called is “Introduction to Aesthetic Dentistry” with Dr. Varun Garg and Dr. Bharat Agrawal. NDP Episode 29: Talking Implants with Dr. Ivan Chicchon (@Implant_Ninja)
Aug 27 2018 54 mins
Hello and welcome back for episode 29 of the Noobie Dentist Podcast, in this episode I sat down with Dr. Ivan Chicchon, the Implant Ninja himself. Dr. Chicchon is a surgical prosthodontist who completed his specialty training at the prestigious University of Michigan ( I know you’ve all seen their old school clinical videos on YouTube, pretty much got me through dental school). I really enjoyed our chat and have so much respect for Ivan, a family man, an outstanding clinician and a straight up hustler. Ivan keeps busy running his practice and is very active in the clinical implant education space. He has authored the “All on X Handbook”, runs hands on courses for dentists and is about to release his highly anticipated Online Implant Ninja course through is website: http://school.implantninja.com/. In this interview we talk about his journey through dental school and prosthodontics residency. As you’ll here in the story Ivan loves to think outside the box and take matters into his own hands. Some great takeaways from the interview is that to stand out you need to break away from the implied rules or norms. Because most people do things the same way, there is always bound to be more competition. By breaking the rules and doing things your own unique way then windows of opportunity will always present themselves. For example, Ivan set up his practice website 3 years before we opened it. This allowed for his site to grow in terms of rank in google search and it was ready to go as soon as he opened his doors. Dr. Ivan Chicchon: Instagram: @implant_ninja Website: school.implantninja.com Show Notes and Supporters: I’m excited to announce a collaboration with Dr. Ivan Chicchon (@implant_ninja) on his upcoming online Implants course (school.implantninja.com) coming out on September 6th! Aug 23 2018 70 mins
NDP Episode 28: Dental Materials, Adhesive Dentistry and Biofilms with Dr. Ryan Nolan Hello and welcome back for episode 28 of the Noobie Dentist Podcast, in this week’s episode I sat down with Dr. Ryan Nolan DMD, dentist, dental materials scientist and host of the Biofilm Factor Podcast! Ryan is probably one of the smartest people I have had the pleasure of speaking with and I tried to extract as much information as possible from him in this episode. We took some deep dives into dental materials, the future of dental materials, adhesive dentistry and the role of biolfilm in clinical dentistry. A lot of valuable and dense topics discussed so it may be something you come back and listen to a second time and have some pen and paper ready to write down some notes. It’s always great to interview fellow podcast hosts and Ryan was a great guest. If you have not heard his Biofilm Factor podcast be sure to do so. It is fantastically diverse in terms of guests and topics covered and is produced very well. I certainly get a lot of value form listening to it so please check it out if you haven’t already. NDP Episode 26: When good enough is not enough with Dr. Brian Baliwas (@sfdentalnerd)
Jul 19 2018 35 mins
Welcome back for another great episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. Both this weeks episode and next weeks episode were recorded several months ago before I moved down to Australia and I am very excited about finally getting them published and released for you guys to enjoy. Today’s guest is Dr. Brian Baliwas the man, the legend behind SF Dental Nerd (@sfdentalnerd) on Instagram. Brian is currently practicing in probably one of the trendiest cities in the world thanks to the boom of silicon valley and the golden state warriors in San Francisco. He is a 2014 University of the Pacific grad and a true stud in every sense of the word. He’s a practice owner, he has a thriving Instagram page and above all else he is an excellent clinician who I look up to and respect highly. We had a great chat and I thoroughly enjoyed this interview and I hope you get tons of value from it as I did. We talk about his journey of getting into dental school and how his mindset and approach pushed him to thrive. My biggest take away from this interview was the question of when is “good enough” not enough and how we should push ourselves and take pride in our work to continue to get better and better as clinicians. His sentiment of wanting other dentists, who may see his work in the future to think that’s a nice restoration or the lab to call him and commend him on his prep and margins. I think we should all be aiming for such standards! As always please reach out on Instagram with any feedback, I do love hearing from you guys! NDP Episode 25: Pathways to Comprehensive Dentistry with Dr. Keerti (@drkeertienso)
Jun 28 2018 44 mins
Welcome back for another great episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. In this episode I had the great pleasure of interviewing a fantastic dentist out of Washington, Dr. Keerti. When it comes to dental education, there are not many out there who could match her credentials. After completing her BDS in India she has completed a fellowship in dentistry to disabled patients, specialised in Oral Medicine, completed an Esthetic Dentistry Continuum at UCLA and is currently a faculty member at the Speak Esthetic Institute. Dr. Keerti owns her own practice where she focuses on comprehensive dentistry. CEREC dentistry is a big part of Dr. Keerti’s practice and is a big area of interest for her. In this episode we talk about several great topics including how to navigate the first few years of your dental career a why Values are more important than Vision. We talk about how to work towards comprehensive dentistry and the importance of structure in the CE and we take. Importance of mentorship, CEREC dentistry and oral medicine for the noobie dentist are also discussed! Some great quotes from this episode “Values over Vision” “Your eyes don’t see what your mind doesn’t know” “stay nimble, stay humble” The NoobieDentist podcast is now available on Spotify, youtube, noobiedentist.com, apple podcast app, stitcher and any other podcast apps out there! www.noobiedentist.com @noobiedentist on Instagram https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCu90HU1-gBJK1Pkz61OQaQA Thanks for listening!

NDP Episode 24: The Millennial Dentist with Dr. Sully Sullivan Hello and welcome back for episode 24 of the NoobieDentist Podcast So after a couple weeks off, I’m excited to be back and I have recorded several fantastic interviews with some very influential dentists who, if you’re active on Instagram you will have no doubt heard of. In this week’s episode I am super pumped to have a fellow dental podcaster Dr. Sully Sullivan of the Millennial dentist podcast. Sully is an absolute legend and will be a big player in dentistry for years to come. He, along with co-host Dr. Peyrey have done and accomplished so much in their careers already and I truly look up to both of them. The millennial dentist podcast is an awesome source of great content and an all-star list of guests so if for whatever reason you haven’t checked them out please make sure to do so! As long as you don’t ditch my podcast in the process! In this episode we cover a lot of topics from some of our own experiences as new dentists and what CE we should be taking. Sully is a CE junkie and has really done it all, so I really grilled him for insight into which courses and areas of dentistry have provided the best ROI for him so far. We talk implants, ortho, pin hole surgery, botox and sleep apnea as well as briefly talk about the benefits of an in house CBCT. Apr 02 2018 36 mins
Welcome back for Episode 18 of the Noobie Dentist Podcast, in this episode I had a great chat with D4 student Pejman Moghbeli out of Arizona. I first connected with Pejman over Instagram and was really impressed by a video that he put together on YouTube about dental student loans, re-payment strategies and tips on how to minimize payments! He has done a lot of research on this topic and his passion for it made me excited to have him on the show. This episode is a great brief overview of how the American Student Debt is structured and different loan re-payment options after graduating. Pejman lays out different re-payment plans currently available and talks about the various pros and cons of each option. ***Disclaimer*** Neither he or I are financial advisors and the tips and suggestions we discuss are our opinions based on our experience and research, so please do your own research and talk to qualified financial planners and advisors before deciding on how best to tackle your student loans because everyone is unique and there is no blanket advice that applies for everyone! NDP Episode 14: Life outside of dentistry with Dr. Bruce Freeman (Part 1 of 2)
Mar 05 2018 72 mins
Welcome to a special 2 part series with Dr. Bruce V Freeman (@drbvf). Feb 08 2018 43 mins
Welcome back for a very special episode of the Noobie Dentist Podcast. In this episode I had the absolute pleasure to podcast interview someone I have admired and respected for a long time, Dr. Mark Hassed! Dr. Mark Hassed, The Relaxed Dentist, is an incredible communicator and has become an expert in case acceptance and practicing efficiently, lecturing throughout Australia and internationally as well! This episode is an absolute must listen for all dentists! Case acceptance, from my experience, is one of the most critical aspects of dentistry and is often one where we need the most help. Dr Hassed’s methods and tactics are tried and true and he has been gracious enough to offer up some of his methods on this podcast! Please be sure to check out his website: https://therelaxeddentist.com for more information about him and his courses. Welcome back for a truly great episode of the NoobieDentist Podcast! I’m super pumped about this episode with Brandon Walker, who after spending 10 years with the United States Marines decided to back to school and become a dentist. As a mature dental student, Brandon has been doing some pretty incredible things in and out of dental school. In dental school, his lifelong hobby of photography is being put to good use and he is producing some high quality photos of his high quality work.
