Meet Bernie. A 92 year old Naval seaman veteran, who tells how he was sent in to clean up Hiroshima when he was just 17, and shares how he later became an aircraft carrier pilot with bombing missions in the Korean War, only to be captured by the enemy. With a freakishly vivid, almost photographic memory, 75 years after he was sent to Japan, Bernie shares some of his vivid war time memories in a series of thoughtful short video and audio podcasts that are often true-sailor crude, pensive, sometimes hilarious, at times somber and dark, but always captivating. He believes he's the last surviving member. I go in search of his lost wartime friends with some heart-warming results. There are both audio and video versions of this podcast that you can watch at 100actsofkindess.org/bernie or on Apple, Podbean, Podcast Addict or on YouTube by searching for this episode.
