When we moved out of suburbia and into the country, we just expected our gardens to get bigger… instead we have watched the years transform us into a small scale, full-fledged, sustainable farm. It doesn't matter if you are a farmer, a farm dreamer, a homesteader or an urban gardener who longs for wide open places, this podcast, err, coopcast from Chicken Thistle Farm is (hopefully) for you! In each episode, we plan on sharing the current happenings and drama around the farm. Expect rambling tales of adventures filled with random mishaps, as we learn to cultivate the original meanings of agriculture in today's modern world. Our conversations will free-range over timely topics that might just include: free-ranged / pastured eggs, pastured broiler chickens, pastured heritage breed turkeys, pastured heritage pigs, an heirloom vegetable CSA, high tunnel gardens, projects in the barn, website management and even fence mending. For anyone who's been inspired by the hard work a farmer undertakes, the lessons taught in Food, Inc. or if you have worked hard yourself to provide a harvest for yourself or others, our personal discussions often wander into the world of local, sustainable, small scale food systems, so this coopcast likely will provide the same. Finally, we hope to wrap up each episode with our Farm U segment where we can share some of the the lessons learned or business strategies that have worked for us (and hopefully you can take something meaningful away). Whether you are interested in farming, organic food, natural food systems, survival skills, gardening or even cooking, we hope to share some of the passion and joy we have discovered in returning to our roots in the soil. So come along for a vist to our chicken coop and join us as we share the stories and skills of our small farm - pasture to plate.
