The city of Ephesus was a rich culture of temptations, and the church Paul helped establish there was in the thick of the fight. In the early years, the church flourished, but in later years it fell away from serving Christ. Paul's letter serves as forewarning of these things and instruct to us on how to avoid following in their footsteps. The letter is 50% doctrine and 50% exhortation for Christian living.
