Geoff Thompson is a writer, film director and self-defence expert. He was born in Coventry, England in 1960. Geoff has received acclaim for writing dozens of books on self-defense, martial arts, fear control, and his most popular book, Watch My Back, an autobigraphy about his early years and how he came to be a nightclub doorman working in his hometown of Coventry. Like many others in the field of self-protection, Geoff began his martial arts training in the traditional Eastern arts (e.g. karate, aikido), but during his time as a nightclub doorman found that what he had learned was inadequate for the reality of violence. Though he utilises a small core of techniques from Eastern arts as part of his teachings, Geoff prefers more pragmatic Western arts such as boxing and wrestling. In addition to his books, Geoff has written and presented a series of martial arts and self help DVDs, distributed by Summersdale Productions. In 2004 Geoff won a BAFTA award for 'best short film' for his screenplay "Brown Paper Bag".
