The American Plan was one of the largest violations of women's rights in US history, but it's one of the least remembered. For over half a century thousands of American women were arrested, forcibly examined and detained without due process, no trial and no evidence of a crime. Their offence? Being suspected of "immorality" under the social hygiene movement, also known as the American Plan.
